World War One talk

Primary 6/7 had a WW1 talk from Mr Spencer who used to be a soldier. He talked to us about trench warfare and the Airforce and showed us the tip of propeller, some pictures and the top of a shell with three rifle bullets. We all enjoyed the talk and appreciate the time that Mr Spencer gave up to come and talk to us.

Outdoor Maths

Primary 6/7 were outside to do active maths. We had to find the perimeter and area of the pitch using meter sticks and trundle wheels. We had a lot of  fun and enjoyed the time spent outdoors.

Anyone who is able to help should turn up at the school anytime between 9.30 and 1pm.

This is an adult only event as there may be some strimmers etc being used.

World War I

We have been very busy with our World War I topic and have been doing lots of interesting things.  We enjoyed our visit to Clydebank Museum where we saw lots of artefacts and learned a lot more information about the first world war.

In class, we split into 5 hometeams.  These are Alexandria and Renton, Clydebank, Jamestown and Bonhill, Dumbarton and Helensburgh.  We chose these names for our home teams as they were part of the companies in the Argyll and Sutherland  Highlanders during the first world war.  In these hometeams we have been working on topic challenges.  So far we have completed 6 challenges.  These were Trench Warfare Challenge, an Artefacts Challenge, the Role of Women Challenge, the Homefront Challenge, Gas Attacks Challenge and the Princess Mary's Christmas Box Challenge.  We really enjoyed working through these challenges and trying on and handling some of the artefacts in the handling kit.

Please leave a comment below telling us which challenge was your favourite and why.

ICT Club

Some children from P3 - P7 started ICT club after school today.  We looked at the different blogs and learned how to comment on them.  We discussed how to gather information and post this on the blogs.  Every week we will update our class blogs sharing interesting things we have been doing in class.

Christmas Nativity Dates Change!

**There is a clash with a music show that is on in the village on the same night as the Early Evening Performance of the Nativity which was announced in an earlier post.**

At the moment we are hopefully changing the dates to the following:

Dress Rehearsal  - Tuesday the 16th of December  9.30 am

Early Evening performance – Tuesday 16th  of December  6 pm

Afternoon Performance – Wednesday 17th of December 1.15 pm

Dear Parents,

Now that we have our All Weather Sports Pitch, we would like to take the children outside for PE whenever possible.  With this in mind we have made changes to the PE kit which children should keep in school.

In this PE bag children should have T shirt, Shorts, Joggers and trainers that are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.  This would enable children to access the pitch on a daily basis regardless of weather.  As we are keen to use the pitch as much as possible could you send in the extra kit as soon as you can.

Along with the Parent Council we will be looking at changes to the school uniform policy which will enable easier access to outdoor learning.

Yours Sincerely,

John McDonald
Head Teacher

Dear Parent/Guardian,

ICT Afterschool Club for P3-7

Following the launch of our school website, we have decided to set up an after school club for pupils from P3 upwards to assist in the updating of both the school website and the class blogs.

This club will run every Thursday from 3:10 till 4:15.  It will run in blocks of 6 weeks. This will allow as many children to participate as possible between now and the end of the school year.  The first block will begin next Thursday (13th November).

If your child is interested in attending this club, please complete the slip at the bottom of this letter and return to school by Friday.  Your child will be informed by next week whether your child will attend this session or one of the subsequent sessions after Christmas.

Yours sincerely

Emma Little & Rebecca Hampson

I would like my child _________________________ to attend the ICT club.
