1914 Christmas Truce

As part of our WWI topic re-enacted the famous 1914 Christmas truce.  We went outside to the pitch, half of us were British soldiers and half of us were German soldiers.  We sang "Silent Night" in both English and German.  We met in "no mans land" just like in 1914 when the soldiers chatted to each other, exchanged gifts and supposedly even had a game of football.  It was also quite sad as we pretended to be the soldiers having to return to their trenches following orders to attack.  We enjoyed the whole experience which helped us to appreciate the significance of the Christmas truce and how some enemies became friends, even for a short time.
