Drymen Show Winners

We entered various pieces of work into the Drymen show and I was able to spot some winners on a very quick tour round the school tent on Saturday.  There may be some more winners but I was able to spot these 3!  So well done to

I think this was Olivia's in P5 coming 3rd.
 Eve in P1 coming 2nd.
And Aimee in P3 coming 1st!

Well done girls and we will hopefully find out if we had anymore winners soon.

A big congratulations to the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Team on winning the Pro 12 Trophy last night.  Earlier this month the Sports Superstars arranged via Elaine Hamilton to attend the Glasgow Warriors final league match of the year.  It was a very important match against ulster.  We had a great day out, despite getting a bit wet towards the end!  Thank you to the Sports Superstars and Elanie Hamilton for organising this.

We even let an Ulster fan sit with us!

Football Stars

On Saturday the 30th of May Gartocharn Primary School entered 3 teams into the Drymen Show Football Tournament for the first time ever.  We had a brilliant morning that was great fun and very successful too.  Hence why Mr McDonald left the Drymen Show with no voice!!

The boys teams went 6 matches undefeated all the way to the final where they lost by 1 goal to a team they had previously beaten.  It was a brilliant effort for a group of players who hadn't played together before.  There were some outstanding goals and play from all the boys.  Well done.

After the boys the girls had a lot to live up to, however, they did not disappoint.  The P4/5 girls team competed very well often against older girls.  They got better with each game and were only knocked out in a very tense penalty shoot out.

The P6 team ( including Olivia from P5 ) went through all their group matches undefeated and reached the final.  The final was a tense match which ended 0 - 0 and went onto penalties.  The girls handled the pressure magnificently and won the penalty shoot out and lifted the Drymen Show Football Trophy at the first time of trying! Well done girls for a brilliant performance.

All the children were fantastic ambassadors for our school in every way.  They competed hard and wanted to win, but had great fun and showed real sportsmanship at all times.  A very proud HT!

RSPB visit

On Thursday the 28th of May P6\7 went out to the forest area with Emma from the RSPB to do a wildlife survey. We got into
pairs and got a primary 1\2 and went down to the woods each group split up and started looking for birds, insects and flowers.
Each pair got a clipboard and a sheet. We found lots of interesting things.

John Muir citizen science

P6\7 went out to the forest area. We all got a partner. Each pair got a field notebook and had to find a tree to do the survey on. First we had to identify the tree then answer questions about our tree. We also measured it's height and girth. When we went back into the class we found the our pairs that had the same type of tree as us then we typed up all of our information on to the OPAL tree survey website. We were surprised about how many different types of trees we found for example: Sycamore, Elm and Oak.

P6 trip to VOLA

On the 19th May 2015 P6 visited the Vale Of Leven Academy to take part in an induction day. They took three classes they were Home Economics, Art and I.C.T. In Home Economics they made mobile phone cakes out of plain sponge cake, icing and sweet decorations. In Art they created shell paintings with oil pastels then used water colour paints to do a wash over the drawing of the shell. In I.C.T they made logos for the SSPCA on the computer and played a guessing game about logos. Overall they enjoyed their visit very much and would rate it ten out of ten.

Street Dance with Urbaniks

Today we were lucky enough to get taster session with the dance crew Urbaniks.  Paul and Pauline came in and did a session with each class over the course of the day.  Each class learned some dance moves and a wee dance and the older classes then took what they had learned to choreograph their own dance individually, in pairs or in small groups.  Everyone really enjoyed the sessions and are looking forward to the possibility of sessions in the future.

This is the link to their website if any children are interested in signing up for their classes.

Path Building

                                             Path Building

Last week we were repairing both of the paths with some bark. We were learning to co operate in teams
to fill buckets and wheel barrows with bark and taking it to both paths. We learned that 'many hands make light
work'. We really enjoyed doing the paths and we hope we can do it again.
